15 ways to skin a cat (or just dont do it)

My friend and illustrator extraordinaire, Zachary Zezima is putting together a zine called '15 ways to skin a cat'. It will include 15 illustrations, created by 15 wonderful illustrators on 15 different ways to skin a cat. for mine, i have to admit, i kind of wimped out. i love cats to much to have evil thoughts about them and so i couldn't exactly skin my cat, so to speak.

Ouchi Gallery

Tuesday Night was the opening for "Art for Gifts" at Ouchi Gallery. The gallery was turned into a art store/gift shop, it was really nice with some cool work. You should check it out, its all pretty reasonably priced. The third picture is my work, I made some small quilts, knit coasters and little crochet pear ornaments. You can see more pictures from the opening on their Flickr page

this is my newest self assigned project... the article it is for is about how people have access to so much medical information on the internet, tv and radio, and the pros and cons of being able to self diagnos.click on it for a closer look.

forced marriage

every two weeks i'm going to try to do an editorial illustration based on an article of my choosing. anyway my first assignment is an article about muslim school girls in France who are sent off over the summer and are forced into marriage. this is the article: New school year puts French on forced marriage alert

i ended up going with the second sketch, i liked the composition more. and then i did a more detailed sketch, and some digital experimentation which i think is kind of funny, not really my style...




and for the final i worked in layers which is a new way of working for me. not digital layers but velum layers, which was fun. first i did the drawing in pencil on velum, then i did two color layers with color pencil on velum, and layered them in photoshop...




i cropped the drawing a bit and the final is at the top...

hello, i am back in new york and back to the real world. but things are in disarray. my scanner is broken, my camera cord is in cyprus, and so i have no way to post drawings at the moment. so instead i will post some pretty pictures i took in cyprus. can you see the mountain goats?
