Tuesday Night was the opening for "Art for Gifts" at Ouchi Gallery. The gallery was turned into a art store/gift shop, it was really nice with some cool work. You should check it out, its all pretty reasonably priced. The third picture is my work, I made some small quilts, knit coasters and little crochet pear ornaments. You can see more pictures from the opening on their Flickr page

every two weeks i'm going to try to do an editorial illustration based on an article of my choosing. anyway my first assignment is an article about muslim school girls in France who are sent off over the summer and are forced into marriage. this is the article: New school year puts French on forced marriage alert
a couple sketches:
i ended up going with the second sketch, i liked the composition more. and then i did a more detailed sketch, and some digital experimentation which i think is kind of funny, not really my style...
and for the final i worked in layers which is a new way of working for me. not digital layers but velum layers, which was fun. first i did the drawing in pencil on velum, then i did two color layers with color pencil on velum, and layered them in photoshop...
i cropped the drawing a bit and the final is at the top...

This is my piece, a tiny quilt, that will be in "Dime Bag 3" to be exhibited at Giant Robot in New York this July. 200 artists will be features and all the bags will be hung in a grid. It should be pretty cool.
Each of the more than two hundred invited artists will receive a 3″ x 3″ clear ziplock-style bag, a “dime bag” of sorts, which is to be used as a container for their piece. The 200 bags will be installed in a grid-like arrangement, each hung with a single nail across two walls of the space. The works will also be for sale individually.

This was my entry for the Bologna Haiku contest, it is based on the haiku: 'this is my final dwelling buried now in five foot snow'. I won second place and $100 dollars prize money (yay) and will be featured in the traveling exhibition, Hi-Q, along with student works from Accademica di Belle Arti di Bologna, ENSAD-Paris, HAW-Hamburg, and Kyoto City University of Arts.
